Dr. Zhou established a Fellowship at the School of Environment, Tsinghua University, with main purposes to recognize excellent graduate students in microbial ecology and environmental science at Tsinghua University, and possibly award young microbial ecologists across China. Dr. Zhou also initiated the establishment of Global Water Microbiome Consortium (GWMC) as a platform to facilitate international collaboration and communication on research and education on global water microbiome studies

Jingrang Lu is a biologist with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in Cincinnati, Ohio. His research work focuses on the molecular method development and detection of pathogenic bacteria in water, using transcriptomic, metagenomic and genomic analysis and host animal model, and to assess water quality and pathogenic risks. He holds a PhD in microbial ecology and a MS in zoology. He has over 60 peer reviewed publications. His main interests are to apply molecular approaches to applied environmental microbiology and public health researches.

Dr Fernando de la Calle is currently the Head of the Microbiology Dpt. within Drug Discovery (R&D) at PharmaMar, biopharma involved in the development and commercialization of anticancer drugs of marine origin. He received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from UAM (Madrid) in 1998. He also completed an Executive-MBA at IDE-CESEM (Madrid) in 2005. He has more than 25 years’ experience working in drug discovery from marine microorganisms. He is an Expert in Applied Biotechnology, Molecular characterization of Bacterial Biodiversity and the use of Biotechnology tools for Drug Discovery . Co-author of the current hemisynthetic process for manufacturing the anticancer Yondelis®, the first European marine derived compound approved. In addition, he has been external advisor for biotechnology issues to the Spanish Government (INCUAL), current member of the International Advisory Group of european ERA-NET for Marine Biotechnology and Biodiversity, reviewer for H2020 and ERA-NET projects and the scientific contact person from PharmaMar for FP7/H2020 EU projects related to Marine Biodiversity such as MAMBA, MaCuMBA, MicroB3 and INMARE as WP leader. Dr. Yu-Zhong Zhang is a professor of the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Technology, Shandong University, China. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in marine biology from Institute of Oceanography, Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1995. Dr. Zhang has been in charge of several important projects in China, such as 863 key projects and NSFC key projects. He has published over 150 peer-reviewed scientific papers, some of which are published in well-known international journals, such as PNAS, the ISME journal, Molecular Microbiology and Journal of Biological Chemistry etc. Dr. Zhang is now an editor of FEMS Microbiology Letters and an editor in board of Applied and Environmental Microbiology

Prof Nora Fung-yee Tam received her MSc and PhD from University of Sheffield and the University of York, UK, respectively. She has more than 25 years of experience in conducting basic and mission-oriented applied research and development projects on biological waste treatment, bioremediation and mangrove ecology. Prof Tam has an extensive publication record, with more than 270 original research articles in refereed international journals, 20 book chapters and has written/edited 9 books in the fields of coastal pollution control and mangrove conservation. She has also served on organizing committees for several international conferences. Prof Tam has considerable experience in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and has supervised more than 150 students' projects at BSc (Hons), MSc, MPhil and PhD levels in environmental biology. She has developed close connections with government, the private sector (environmental consultant companies) and local green groups.

A catalytic, inspirational personality, Geraldo K.H. Emmanuel has been an ardent and inspirational figure working in diverse areas of global and national development. Geraldo Emmanuel Kofi Hayford has over seven years of experience that focuses on community development and works in this regard as the director and manager for the Centre for Community Development - CCD organization and with much focus on the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) at the Rome Model United Nations Conference - Italy and as the Under Secretary General for the Ghana International Model UN Conference in Accra, Ghana. He inspired several community development projects that impact the rural communities along the southern rural sector of the Volta Region of Ghana. As a student leader, he led the Ghana Technology University Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (USA) in a capacity as the Chapter President to win both the Chapter and Member of the month of November in 2012. He led the research project to connect the Keta rural community schools to the worldwide web via a microwave link as part of the STEM education promotion in rural deprived communities along the coast of the Volta Region of Ghana. Geraldo is also a founding member of the Global Alliance for Peace and Sustainability (GAPS), an NGO that played a crucial role in peace building and promoted peace during the 2012 Presidential Election Petition at the Supreme Court of Ghana sensitizing the general public and political parties on the need to preserve the democratic credentials of the nation and as the Executive Administrative Secretary helps in writing a series of articles for the organization. He has also volunteered with TIG, a non-profit online resource-based organization in Toronto, Canada where he administers Global issues on Child Rights, Labor and Domestic Abuse since 2012 and also published an article on Ghana in this regard. He is skilled in team leadership, public speaking, communications technology as well as a host of other social media forum management and organizations. As a student of Ghana Technology University College, he uses internet resource tools a lot to educate both his colleagues and a large audience across the student spectrum and internationally. Subir Kumar Mandal is having working experience in Marine Environmental Pollution and Marine Harmful Algal Bloom. He spent much of his research carrier to develop his skills in identifying marine microalgae (phytoplankton) and diversity study throughout the Saurashtra-Gujarat coast of the Arabian sea. During his doctoral work, he carried out environmental impact studies on Marine Phytoplankton due to ship scrapping activities at Alang. He was awarded “Monbukagakusho Fellowship” by Japanese Government and worked at Tokyo University of Marine Science and Marine Science and Technology, Tokyo. There, he worked on bioremediation of As3+ and As5+ using marine cyanobacteria. During his post-doctoral, he worked on measuring anoxigenic photosynthesis using bench top FRRF (Fast Rate Repetitive Fluorescence). After joining CSMCRI as Junior Scientist, he started to study identifying Harmful Algal Bloom forming organisms using satellite data. He has already completed one collaborative project with Space Application Centre (ISRO) at Ahmedabad. Currently, he is handling two other projects. Out of which, one is carrying out with SAC (ISRO) collaboratively and the other one is CSIR Network project.
